There are five centres in Israel for youth at risk, but not one of them is located in the south.
The “Desert Shanti” project is currently being built in the south – a multi-disciplinary village for youngsters at risk that will be run according to the successful model of Shanti House in Tel Aviv, with the aim of enlarging the scope of its therapeutic tools and providing a solution to the serious problem of youth at risk in Israel’s southern region.
The village will operate 365 days a year, 24 hours a day and will be a warm home and supporting framework for more than 1,000 young people each year.
The village is built on ground belonging to the Ramat Negev Local Council, near Route 40 (a main route traversing the country’s length) and will cover an area of 540 dunams, 150 of which will be used for building. |
